Carmen de Tommaso was borned in Paris in 1909; she became Mme Carven Mallet when she opened her first haute couture house in borrowed apartments in the elegant Rond Point des Champs Elysées in 1945. In 1959 she was the first perfumer to sell fragrance in-flight. Parfums Carven was bought by Worth in 1995. In 1998 it was acquired by perfumers Daniel Harlent.
